Pre-college at uArts

I am leaving in two days for uart's art+media exploration and I am very nervous because I have never had formal training in art. Several art majors have told me that I have allot of natural talent but I'm afraid that these classes will be too hard. I know, I can't really do anything about it now that I'm leaving in two days. I guess I'm just getting cold feet. It would be amazing if someone who has been could tell me a little bit about it.

don't be afraid. when i stepped into college i never had formal training either. i was scared to try different mediums as i never got hold of them before. i was intimidated by my classmates who are more experienced than i am. if you have a natural talent then it would just show in the works that you will be doing. you'll just be surprised that you can actually create artworks that you've never imagined you can do. besides, since it's a pre- college class then i think that there would be some people there who are in the same boat as you. just try your best and treat it as something that would help you enhance your talent in art. you can't really avoid getting nervous but try to think more positively. have fun in your pre-college class. Goodluck!

My son went to UArts summer program a few years ago, because we didn't feel he was getting enough art courses in his high school. Because of that, he too had no formal training, and very little in terms of even basic stuff. He took ceramics, photography and (I think) computer art, and he had a great time. They have an exhibition at the end of the program of all the kids' work, and while some of it really was terrific, most of it was the work of enthusiastic "amateurs" like him--and like you.

What my son really liked about UArts, though, was the neighborhood it's in. It's in the middle of downtown, in a really interesting part of Philadelphia, with concerts, shows and lots of neat restaurants within close walking distance of the dorms. Don't be nervous--you'll have a lot of fun!

Thanks so much for your replies! I feel better already : D
