Pre-College Interior Design programs

Hi! Does anyone know anything about the Pre-College summer programs at Drexel, School of Visual Arts, or the NY School of Interior Design? They are all in the running for my daughter to spend two or three weeks at to explore whether she wants to focus on ID in college (she is currently a Junior). I would sure appreciate some input!

I’m sorry I don’t have any input, but does Pratt have a pre-college program? Just asking because you’re looking in NYC and their program is very highly rated.

Yes, Pratt has a pre-college program. My daughter attended a couple of summers ago. They had a good core program.

I think any of them would be fine, more than one if you can swing it. If one seems to be a preferred school right now for your D then do that one, or if one seems to be intriguing but you know little about it that might be good too. My D (animation/visual effects major, maybe) did a week workshop last summer at SCAD (in residence) and then a 2 week portfolio boot camp at Temple (commuted). Both were hugely important in her application process. We drove her to SCAD and took a week vacation in Savannah and Hilton Head around it. You could do the same at Drexel if you live in NY. The facilities and faculty for all the design programs at Drexel are amazing and it’s near the arts district of Philly. I don’t know anything about NYSID or SVA but both have good reputations.

I strongly recommend these summer programs for prospective art majors. Getting a feel for the studios and faculty is very important and you don’t really get that in an open house or tour.
