Hey there,
I’m Gabi. I’m a junior in high school looking to major in animation or film and video. I’d heard of the RISD pre college program and decided to look into other colleges. So far I’ve been really impressed with RISD. Everyone gives it great review and it seems like a lot of hard work that pays off well. The only problem would be the price since I’d be paying for 50% of the program and my parents would be paying for the other half. I looked into MICA and Pratt, but I’m not so convinced. Anyone have any opinions? Thanks!
Look up the pre-college program for Ringling in Sarasota. It’s a 4 week (rather than 6 week program) so is less expensive (most of these programs run about the same on a cost per week residential basis).
. It is excellent. You pick two immersions and they offer both animation and film majors.
As far as I know, RISD does have the most rigorous art Pre-College program in the U.S. Their pre-college animation program, however, is a lot stronger than their film program (the film and animation majors are divided in the pre-college program, unlike their undergrad program). RISD does have a scholarship program for their pre-college, so I’d suggest trying to apply to it if you can. I’ve heard a lot of good things about MICA’s pre-college program too, but it’s not exactly in the safest area (same for Pratt). SAIC does have a pretty nice pre-college program, too (plus their dorms are pretty amazing so you’ll definitely have a good time).
I’m a RISD Pre-college alumni so if you have any specific questions, let me know. Good luck
Thanks so much!
I looked into it and I really like their animation program! Thanks for the tip!
