Pre-college summer program for foreign langugae credit?

I want to major in spanish/french and want to get a head start before college so that i can be ahead. I would like to apply for scholarships too. I am looking for some average city-schools that have summer programs for soon to be freshamn also. I say average because my sat is only 1800 and i may have a higher shot at getting in with a schoalrship for the summer program. I just want to advance my spanish and french so i can be in higher levels. I would do afs but it is too expensive plus i may be going to a switzerland college(american/international) that is really expensive-i may never get to come back home due to the flight expenses. I need a program that is affordable, where i can either really advnace my skills or get college credit. I know about nyu and boston university programs bu these seem too high up there.

You could get a summer job in a country that uses one of those languages.

How, exactly? This person would almost certainly need to have a work permit/visa and need to arrange transportation, housing and meals.

There isn’t a lot of scholarship money out there for summer programs. You need to see whether or not any inexpensive schools that you can commute to in the summer while you are working part-time offer the languages you are interested in. AFS or YFU would be my first recommendations for well organized summer or year-long immersion experiences. Another option (summer only) is [Concordia Language Villages - Concordia Language Villages](http://www.concordialanguagevillages.org/newsite/) If you are prepared to decide quickly, 2011 rates are available if you book by December 1.

Less ambitiously, you could take summer classes at your local community college or state u. S took Spanish at our state u and it was 4 units for around $2,000. If the timing had worked, it would have been even cheaper at our local CC.

I was thinking of summer work as an pair for an English-speaking family in a French- or Spanish-speaking country. Work visas are an included part of au pair programs, and the student would be earning money instead of spending it.

You may want to see if Beloit is offering one. They have one in Japanese I was considering for my D1. She has gone to Concordia for the past two years btw, and they do offer High School credit if you go 4 weeks. D1 has really enjoyed programs there and I highly recommend Concordia Villages. I know there is a French program in Quebec, but I can’t recall the name. Look on Teen Ink website and look under “summer programs”, then filter by interests. I think that’s where I saw the Quebec one. I’d imagine there would be plenty of other french programs in Canada?

And, I agree, community college classes would be fine too. You may be able to take those as Dual Enrollment (HS credit and College credit). That’s always an option. Also agree that AFS is worth looking into. They do have some scholarships, but it depends on the language/country you are wanting to be sent to.

I just found one, but not sure what college issues the credit:
