How good is UCLA's pre dentistry program?? Do they even have one? I am still deciding between UCLA and UCSD, because i heard that it would be better if i go to UCSD because its good for predentistry. and i really need help in deciding because i only have about 3 days left before doing the SIR!!!!

which school do you like better? then go there. the school name does not matter in this case.

a lot of people say ucsd is better for science majors though? i am in a really tough situation. i got accepted to UCSD as a human bio major and UCLA as a biology major. I think i really want to major in human bio becuase its much more interesting, and its not an option at ucla because they do not even offer that major. I really want to do dentistry later on, and it's still difficult decision. Despite LA's presitige, it seems like i am more attracted to UCSD. When i talk about this to people, especially my dad, who is super asian, he to counters that LA's name would be better on my dental school application despite UCSD's renowned science-biology department. what do you guys thinK????

well, considering you are an undergrad, it does not really matter which school has a better dentistry school at the moment...you will apply for denstry school later on...
btw, I think the best denstry school of all UCs is UCSF...

ROMIC,

Slow down. Don't worry about dental school. That's 4 years away. Worry about which school is going to offer you the better fit. If you don't like where you're at, you're going to be miserable and not do as well anyway.

A 3.3 from UCLA is not going to benefit you like a 3.9 from UCSD would. UCSD is a very good undergraduate program that will offer you the 6 college system. UCLA will offer you a great, vibrant community with tons of resources.

Both have pretty much the same weather.

I would go at this point based on which school gives you the better feeling.

UCLAri, do you think that since i am a science major it would benefit me more to go to UCSD though? since it is more science oriented? I cannot deny how UCLA's program is good across the board, but still, without UCLA's name, would it be as good as UCSD science-wise?

You're an undergrad. A few rank difference is not going to affect you that much (if at all). Worry more about how much the program is going to offer you the resources you want. Resources don't always mean "name." They oftentimes mean things like:

Location
Quality of life
Internship availability
Research availability
Housing

...and so on. Both programs are fairly comparable, with UCLA having a bit of a leg up as an undergrad institution. Look at the externalities.

wow 3.3 at la vs 3.9 at sd? Sd isnt THAT easy

ghostblade,

I didn’t say that UCSD was easy. I happen to have a graduate degree from UCSD, so I know quite well about its standards. It was a thought experiment, that’s all.

ghostblade you got owned

…why would you revive a dead thread like this?

^^ After a two year gap in posts, UCLAri didn’t skip a beat in responding!

Despite a thread being old, it still comes up in my list. I sometimes don’t even notice the age of a thread, and I don’t want anyone to believe that I find UCSD “easy.” I do not believe that UCSD is a place for the faint of heart. It is a place that tests academic mettle, to be sure.

:)

For Pre-dentistry you should go to UCLA! they have a great dental program, i don’t think UCSD has a dental program…

lamchops,

That doesn’t matter, because dentistry is a graduate program anyway.

so what if UCLA has a great dental program? the admissions rate for the graduate school is close to nil. if your heart is really set on this, go to ucsd and get the gpa. but even then you’ve got quite a way to go…

i’m just saying if the OP is accepted in UCLA, they should go there because UCSD doesn’t have a dental program.

why would you want to go to UCSD and take all these pre-dent classes there that might not be equivalent to the UCLA ones and have to apply to transfer to UCLA for the dental program? it’s a hassle…

what the hell are you talking about. anyone can apply to ucla’s dental school. it doesnt matter where you take the pre reqs.
