Pre-Dentistry

Asking this for a friend since I know nothing about pre-dentistry:

(1) Does it matter what school the student goes to for undergrad? (I'm not sure if it works the same as pre-vet/pre-med)
(2) Is Dental Hygiene or something Dental the same major? What careers does it lead to?

Thanks. :)

1) No, so long as it’s an accredited US or Canadian college or university.

2) dental hygiene is NOT the same as pre-dental. Dental hygiene is a vocational major for individuals who intend to be dental hygienists.

Pre-dental is a set of required academic courses that prepare an individual to take the DAT (Dental school Admission Test). Pre-reqs for dental school are similar to those for medical school (chemistry, biology, Ochem, physics, English) but may also include biochem, psych, microbiology (requirements are school dependent)

Like pre-meds, pre-dents can major in anything they want so long as they complete the pre-requisite courses.
