Pre Freshman Program for 2013

So I got accepted into Cornell with the condition that I must attend the pre freshman program. I am honored that I was offered admission and I am truly excited about the program in the summer, but I am nervous as well. I am a dual enrollment student who is graduating high school with 60 college credits so it's not like I am afraid of making the transition from high school to college, but I feel bad because I am not sure if this means that they feel that I am not ready for an Ivy league? I must admit that I did not do as well as I wanted to do on the SAT/ACT. Is it possible that this may be the reason why this program is mandatory for me? If there is anyone out there who has done the program, can you elaborate on your experience?

If they didn’t think you could handle the work they would not have accepted you. Relax! (: take this as an opportunity to get ahead, meet people and get acquainted with Ithaca. Congratulations on your acceptance!

Thank you for your kind words, you made me feel better! I guess I am just over thinking the situation. I am honestly really excited because it is my dream school, which makes the situation a lot better. :D

I was admitted under the same condition, I’m just wondering why? I didnt get the scores i wanted on my SAT/ACT as well, so is it because they think I’m not ready for the tougher classes at Cornell?

I was admitted in same condition too, I have a pretty impressive ACT/SAT score; I think is because I am technically economically disadvantage.

I’m economically disadvantaged too, but I’m guessing that’s just one of the factors considered when the colleges pick their students. Anyone else from the College of Human Ecology?

I know Columbia and Cornell offers these pre freshmen courses for admitted students. It doesn’t make you any different… but like HEOP/ EOP students must attend anyway. If you were admitted to Cornell, it meant you were strong enough to be part of the Ivy community!
Pre summer program is just there to give you pre college experience and a smooth transition from HS to college. take it as a good thing. you’ll meet your classmates etc.

Please post in the college and search forum. Not here. ^

Well you don’t get an offer, it’s a condition that you go or else you can’t attend cornell, seems like there’s an ulterior motive for it but I’m not sure, maybe I’m just being paranoid.

It’s only going to help you guys. It won’t hurt.

Don’t look at this as a bad thing because it isn’t! You should be happy that they are giving you this opportunity to explore and experience Cornell before other admitted students come.

and you were chosen for various reasons.

 1. if you were admitted through HEOP/ EOP you must do it since you need to take pre summer courses to get use to the college experience.
 2. you may not be in the HEOP/EOP program but they are asking you to do this probably because you were from disadvantaged academic backgrounds but you succeeded!

How do you know if you were accepted to H/Eop program?

It will say so in your Cornell admission letter

@sosoyumi thank you very much

From what i’ve heard the program is amazing, and it’s free! You can’t get much better than that! I was extended the offer but I’m not 100% sure I will attend (I planned on working & spending time with friends). To everyone attending: I’m sure it’ll be a blast!

I’m not with the HEOP/EOP thingy.

Does this mean they think I’m stupid? I had an okay ACT score…

Two summers ago, after my junior year in high school, I took summer courses at Cornell and met a girl in the pre-freshman program. She was at the top of her class at a high school in Miami, and LOVED the program; she made tons of friends and also mentioned later that it was great to get a head start on some of her credits and get a feel for the university. By the time that fall rolled around, she already knew campus very well and had the unique experience of bonding with people before all of the other freshmen arrived on campus. So, if anything, you’ll get to experience Ithaca’s gorgeous summer weather and familiarize yourself with Cornell. :)

It definitely doesn’t mean they think you’re stupid. It means that they have faith and see your potential academic and personal growth from attending such a program.

If it meant that they thought you were “stupid” and incapable of keeping up with the rigorous work they simply wouldn’t have accepted you!

The Pre Freshman Program will only benefit you in the end and help you become better acclimated with the campus and expected work

@alexissss I had an impressive gpa and sat/act score. I think they also consider your personal background and maybe historical background. Is nt just test scores and grades that they use to determine who has to attend

Deleted.

10 char

I have to attend the PSP because of HEOP
hope we can both benefit from it!
