Pre-Haas Major and not attending CalSO + Advice wanted for classes!

Hi Guys,

I’m entering Berkeley in the Fall of 2020 and am not attending CalSO. I’m really concerned right now – heard that most of the popular classes and professors are all taken since we get last pick. I’m a pre-haas major and was hoping for some advice, especially regarding availability of classes and what to take.

  1. A reading and comp class (English R1B)
  2. Math Class (1, 16, or 32? I got a 5 on the AP Calc BC exam)
  3. UGBA 10
  4. breadth (what are some interesting and relatively easier classes?)
  5. Freshman Seminar

Thanks!

Instructors’ descriptions and reading lists can be found at http://english.berkeley.edu/course_semesters/34 . Note that some other departments offer R&C B courses as well.

For the business major, your 5 on calculus BC means that taking any one of 16B, 1B, 53, or 54 will be sufficient. You may want to choose your math course based on what other major(s) you are considering. If you are considering economics as an alternate major, considering taking 53 and 54 to give the option of choosing the more mathematical track.

You may want to try the old 1A and 1B exams to be sure that you know the material:
