I am a senior in high school looking to apply for my undergrad. Eventually I will attend law school but for now I have a question about pre-law programs. I have seen plenty of advice to not choose a pre-law major for my undergrad (I’m going with history) but there’s one question on the Common App that’s tripping me up. The question reads: “If your future goals include professional school, please select all that apply” and then it gives me the option to either select “pre-law” or leave the space blank. My future goals do include law school, but I’ve been warned time and time again to avoid anything “pre-law.” What should I do?
The way I take that question, it is just designed for the school to know whether you are interested in going on to some kind of grad school and if so what kind. As far as I know, your answer does not commit you to doing any kind of pre law track or activity or anything like that.
I’d leave it blank. Answering pre-law does nothing for your undergrad admission app.
