Hello. I am a senior and thinking about applying to the Stony Brook Honors College. However, I am concerned that the premed requirements, ecs, clinical experience along with the honors college requirements will be too much work. Is there a benefit to being in the honors college and applying to the Stony Brook Medical School. Can anyone give me their opinions on this?

The normal DEC requirements are slightly waived and you will take certain special classes.

The Honors College is not any more “challenging” than normal. You will just take a few extra classes with other students who excel academically. Your “major” classes will be exact same as everyone else.

Plus, it looks good on applications for graduate/doctoral programs.

Go for it.

Do you think I have a good chance at getting into the Honors College?

I think you have a very good chance.

How did you major in Biology in high school?

Oh I go to this weird school in which you have to pick a major that determines the classes you take for the rest of your high school years lol.

Also, do you know anything else I could do to significantly increase my chances of being accepted?

Just compile a solid application. Make sure your personal statement highlights your positive achievement(s) and is solid.

[Stony Brook University -Admissions](http://www.stonybrook.edu/ugadmissions/newhonors/apply.shtml)

I feel like you’re almost overqualified for Stony Brook lol…since I know plenty of other people with far less impressive stats than you get in. Honors college doesn’t matter period for med schools, they are FAR more concerned with your major, how you do in the pre-med courses, mcat, personal statement, and research if you plan to do any.

Oh my mistake, you wanted to know if you are qualified to get into the Honors College, in that case i wouldn’t say you’re a shoo-in but still, strong credentials imo

LOL, I think I go to Paulhung’s school. I majored in Chemistry :P
