The Anthropology and Human Biology majoor interests me a lot. However, I was wondering if it's a suitable major for pre-med. Does it fulfill any pre-med reqs (besides biology of course), is it good prep for the MCAT, is it easier to maintain a high GPA, etc? I'm curious because it has a rather large amount of credit hours required for the major and I don't want to be scrambling to finish my pre-med reqs.

Also, if med school doesn't work out what can I do with it as a degree lol? Does anybody know of someone going into a non-medical field with it as a degree?

Thanks!

Google that.

Yes (of course youll have to prepare by yourself as well)

It depends on what your high school was like I guess. A good friend of mine had a difficult HS experience and breezed through freshman year with a 4.0. I ended up with like a 3.3 (3.8 first and 2.8 second semester) and i dont feel like HS helped me at all (although the second semester was due to… distractions)

Also, if med school doesn’t work out what can I do with it as a degree lol? Does anybody know of someone going into a non-medical field with it as a degree?

I have no idea lol.

do you have AP credit? take advantage of that if you do. I wish I had taken the AP tests in HS so i wouldnt have been bored out of my mind in a couple classes (and then become arrogant and perform badly lol)

Yeah I have Human Geography, World History, US History, and Psychology. From my classes this year I plan on having Enviro, Stat, Lang, Gov and Physics. I know I’ll get 4/5s on all them except for Physics. I don’t know how I’ll do on that (definitely a 3+ though).

Okay, when you get here, someone who knows more than me will coach/advise you on which ones to use. I definitely think you have enough to go through with this major. Not having science AP isn’t a problem since you’ll probably want to take those classes and be fresh anyway. APs are better used for getting out of core curriculum stuff than trying to skip science courses in my opinion.
I feel like your major is a good goal for you.
My advice is to just work through applications and enjoy your senior year. Don’t think (anymore) about major or career or anything else until maybe a month until college starts.

My D majored in Anthro and Human Biology with a minor in global health. She loved it - went to Mali with an Emory prof to help with his NGO, was involved in some clinical under grad research. She took a year off and is in med school now. She felt it was a good combination and had no problem getting a job her year off running clincial studies.

^That’s exactly what I was looking for! Movinmom would you mind if I PMed you if I had a few questions?

Thanks everybody!
