I was recently accepted to GU as a transfer. I know its great place for politics and law, but what about the Sciences? I am planning to study Biology with a Pre-med focus, and I just wanna see what I would be getting myself into. Anyone's insight would be great. . .

Pre-med is tough...most of the friends I have that started off that way are now english majors. :-) But if you're dedicated to it, Gtown is a good place to be. I won't lie, it's not the BEST place to be...but there are opportunities. Most of my friends that are interested in medicine are either pre-med or in the nursing school. On top of their academics, most have jobs either with the athletic department or at the university hospital helping out with injuries and the like.

The reason I asked is b/c right now I am at the University of San Francisco, and granted it hasnt been dubbed the best/most prestigous place either to be for pre-med, but I am just wondering if it's worth trasnferring, or if I should just stay where I'm at.

When I went to the GAAP weekend, they told us that the med school acceptance rate is around 70%, which isn't great, but is a lot higher than the national average of 30%. It definitely helps having the med school and hospital right on campus, so there are lots of opportunities to get involved with medical-related research and extracurriculars.

med school acceptance rates, from what ive heard, can sometimes be deceptive. for exapmle, amherst has a reported 95 percent placement rate, but (i heard) that this is only because they have a rigorous screening process for who can apply. dunno if georgetown has a similar thing.
