Please help me decide! Any advice or insight is greatly appreciated!

Can you tell us a little more about what you want to get out of college, and what you’re like?

I think personality wise, I’m pretty spontaneous and like to collaborate. However, I still enjoy being in a competitive atmosphere. So, I might be a more MIT type. However, I heard people at MIT don’t really like or look favorably upon pre-meds because they see them as grade grubbers and learning not for the sake of learning. But, I do enjoy learning for the sake of it and I’m not that grade- conscious. I really want to go somewhere with lots of research opportunities and chances to get to know my advisors and professors.

^^^ this is sounding more and more like a Princeton decision

Lol yes, however on the other hand MIT and Harvard’s location also provides a lot more opportunities than Princeton, since Princeton’s more secluded and doesn’t have a med school or large grad population

Harvard or MIT, depending on which you like more. There are a lot of premeds at MIT and they aren’t looked down upon. Can’t say the same if you’re say… a management major. Just come to both admit weekends and see which one suits you more.

Princeton and UPenn are 2nd-tier (relatively). You shouldn’t go there unless they’re offering you something amazing (e.g. 10k/year extra aid or something). Just my two cents.

Also, Boston >>> Philly > whatever city Princeton is in.

I had a Princeton friend who said that if they included Princeton in the med school rankings, they would be rated like #3.

@ iceui2 Thanks for your input lol Princeton and UPenn second tier? sounds a little harsh but I’ll keep that in mind

@collegealum314 Could you please clarify? How do you rank Pton if they don’t have a med school? Do you mean in terms of research level/ opportunities related to medicine?

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/princeton-university/905719-these-colleges-have-highest-medical-school-acceptance-rates.html

No, my friend was joking that these things are based so much on the reputation of the overall university that Princeton would end up #3 even though they don’t actually have a med school.

Good luck getting high grades as Premed at MIT…

^As of a couple of years ago, the average premed at MIT had a 3.6 GPA (out of 4.0) when applying to medical school, and the average accepted premed had a GPA of 3.7. Not much selection for GPA going on there.

Lol no… Princeton and Wharton are definitely not “second tier” … :P

If you’re sure you want to do premed, I think doing a UPenn LSM double degree might make it a bit more difficult to fit a premed track as well, though.
