Hey, I got in EA and have already declared. I want to major in Pre-med (bio) and minor in music. I was just wondering how ND's pre-med program ranks nationally. I think I saw that 97-98% of students with a GPA between 3.5-4.0 get accepted into med school.

Again, I will look up rankings later (sorry, finals have taken over my life) but it is a solid program, for what it is worth.

I think it's pretty good. My cousin was pre-med and got into Georgetown Medical school.

Hey, as I read some of the stats, Georgetown and Indiana Med school seem to be the feeder schools for ND premeds.

By the way, I heard that the Head and Director of the Premed Board, I forgot his name, stepped down. What I heard from so many people of various universities is that this guy really made it happen from ND premeds. Even if ou had a 3.1, he put your App on the front of his pile and furthermore he was very well respected and known among the Medical School Admissions' comittees. Do you think because he recently stepped down, this will have a big impact on premeds getting into med school. After all, having such a reputed Director is always a plus.

The Gourman report ranking from 1997 (perhaps somewhat dated) ranked Notre Dame 12th (between Chicago and Princeton). The ND pre-med info sheet mentions that ND ranks in the top 10-15 of all pre-med program rankings. I posted more info on pre-med in the other thread, check it out if you're interested.

Pre-med and bio students are pretty well prepared and do well on the MCATs given the courseload ND gives them. Organic chemistry is so tough sophomore year that juniors don't bother studying orgo because they learned it well enough already (at least thats what I hear, I'm a poli sci/ accounting major).
