pre-Med at Princeton + grade capping = ?

Right so Pton has this kickass med school placement, but that was before they put the cap n As at 35%. Two qs:

At Pton, is it A B C D? Or is it A+ A A- B+ B B -...?

35% cap on As = 35% A or 35% A+ A A-?

I don't know if this is hte right place to ask this, but does anyone anticipate Pton's med school placement to drop (right now it's very good) if they get stingier on As?

oops, that was 3 questions. tricked you all ;).

good question, i wonder too.

;) the post was inspired by you, amnesia.

It's definitely Princeton though, either way.

hai, to be honest, I think that Princeton and any other great school is wonderful, but pre-Meds probably won't be able to enjoy it as much. Some serious horror stories about hypercompetition. climbs out of pool of self-pity.

amnesia, would you like to PM me with your email addy? I asked some pton students about premed and I could pass on a response if I get one.

you can post the respones here...

i have no clue why im hanging out at the pton forum... i just had a click a few days ago that i wanted to a apply. it changes weekly. i hope pton stays there. im not sure ill get in though because i can't get 1550s on my sat

Take it easy, amnesia - SATs are hardly everything / anything much really.

99% of the time comments like "SATs are hardly everything / anything much really" come from people with great SAT scores. What have you, mea?

legendofmax --
stop asking awkward questions! ;)

amnesia - no, really, esp with princeton, after a certain point (1400ish?), admissions officers start looking at other things to distinguish you from other applicants. Of course, raise it if you can, but time is limited and it's really best to strengthen other parts of your app. In any case, you sound like you're doing well at school (from the other thread) and that's a great start for an app to anywhere.

Truth of the matter is, 1400+ DOES get your foot in the door. However, very high scores (770+ in all categories) make it hard to be turned down universally. I maintain that it is rare, for example, for a 1600-SAT1 applicant to get rejected at every Ivy.

good point from legendofmax; that's true. Obsess over scores in moderation then, : ).

True that :)

(legendofmax - how fast are you posting?!?!)

(...how hypocritical was that statement?)

I post as quickly as the board lets me... :X heheh. If you want to see real power though... check out my girlfriend's post count (Zantedeschia). That's true speed-utilization there.

Okie amnesia, a great + friendly reply from a Pton premed.

Basically, not to worry. The grade capping is felt more in the humanities where grading is more subjective. In the sci classes you and I would be most concerned with, 35% As is only a touch lower than what it would be normally anyway.

zante! man, she has a crazy number of posts. CC-love, shoot, that's cute.

LOL yes... it's wonderful though :)

mea, I do have solid stats in everything. I just suck at CB tests. I have 4 AP tests to take and I don't know if I will get all 5s. I think I will get a 2/3 on AP Spanish Lang., a 3 or 4 on Ap English Lang, a 4/5 on APUSH, and a 5 on AP Biology... those probably suck...

my only weakness is the sat. I took it with a princeton review course and got a 1310. that was in October.

nearly 6 months+ ago...

I am gearing up for the June SAT by doing practice with the book CB has for it.

sadly, the sat does matter. it's like the MCAT. I know the SAT won't get you accepted, but it can get you rejected. a dumb test that is just logic determines our fate... I guess.

I think I can get into Princeton. I wouldn't wear Princeton T-Shirts around my school if I couldn't back it ... cause it ain't bragging when you can prove it.

The 35 percent covers all A-range grades (in other words, including pluses and minuses). If you are good at science and work hard, you will do fine.

Re pre-meds, I know quite a few of these students who are very actively involved in student organizations and social life. They do work hard, but they also have a life.

keep in mind that 35% is a mere "target" and not a hard cap.

everyone at pton always makes As, so they wanted to prevent achievement. :p
