Pre-Med at UChicago

I'm a big fan of the UChicago School of Economics and will probably apply EA. If I were to attend, I would like to major in econ while completing the pre-med requirements. How is the Pre-med advising at UChicago? I've went through some old posts and it seems like grade inflation has finally hit UChicago and that is fairly comparable to its peer schools. What's the average UofC GPA? I've seen hard data on other peer schools like Penn, Columbia, etc? Is there a hard statistic on this?

Also, do pre-meds often have to "fluff their GPA's" to be competitive med school applicants (i.e. take theater 101, art 101, spanish 101, french 101, etc.) to get A's to compensate for their lower science grades? I know orgo at many universities is a killer class.

bump. I saw a post earlier on the average gpa and saw that over 1000 of the 1200 undergrads graduated with honors. Can you say this would dispel the grade deflation myth at UofC? I really like the school, but am not sure I would want to attend if the deflation is rampant.

The graduation rate at UofC is around 98%, so if you are admitted, they think you can do the work and succeed. Do not be afraid of deflation, just do your best and you will be fine. If Medical School is your target, the MD school will consider the course rigor you took and the grade deflation from your courses. You are not the first U of C student who apply for Med School and the adcoms know the school well.

Even if you cannot make the med school cut, U of C is a great institution to attend. My Friend’s D, she opt out of pre-med and now is a successful investment banker.
