pre-med at UMD-College Park

how is the pre-med program at UMD-CP? does it have a rank and if not how would one know that it is a good program?

hey,

im going to be a junior in the cell bio program at UMCP.
For my first 2 years of college, I was a pre-med student.

I done some research into the pre-med prog there. Personally, I have not heard much about it, primarily because UMBC (another University of Maryland System university) is known for its pre-med acceptances. I guess UMBC steals the spotlight from college park when pre-med programs are compared.

All the people in my circle of friends decided to do pre-med at UMBC, and only 1-2 plan on doing this prog in UMCP.

The differences I found b/ween UMBC and College Park (for pre-med) are:
*The good thing about UMCP is that 2 courses in Biochem is required for your bachelors in biology, but UMBC doesnt have a biochem requirement for their bio bachelors. (Many pre-med advisors PUSH pre-meds to take 1 COURSE in biochem, let alone 2!!!!)
*Also, UMCP requires Calc 2 (math is a good thing for med school) whereas UMBC lets you go by with calc 1.

Nonetheless, I've heard more about the pre-med program at UMBC, but I havn't heard much about UMCP's program. I dont know why.
I guess the reason could be because UMCP is a 35,000+ institituion, and it'll be hard to specialize and strenghten specific areas of programs, like pre-med, pre-dental, pre-vet, etc.

Anyways, hope i was helpful.
