Hey, I'm planning to go to Med school, and was looking for input on any of the following:

a) the level of competition among pre-Meds* at Yale
b) the quality of teaching, availability of courses I would need to take
c) support network for pre-Meds (advising, for example)
d) internship/research opportunities

I know pre-Med isn't a major; I'm referring just to the set of courses I would need to take for med school.

Thanks lots - I'm trying to decide between many good options at the moment and anything helps.

suburbian - If I could answer your question, I wouldn't be on this board. I'm looking at Yale (perhaps Stanford too) or Northwestern HPME myself ('tho Brown is an ivy,if that comes into consideration). I think if you're sure-sure-sure-super-sure about med, go for Brown PLME. My mom's a doctor, and she keeps telling me how grateful I will be later on to have a guarantee into med school.

Bleh, good luck with the choice...let me know what you choose in the end : )?

mesaboogie - thanks; 8 classes isn't much. It's kind of coming down to how confident I am at doing well in them...

suburbian, I have the exact same decision as you...and I'm probably going to do Brown PLME. While I love Yale and I thank it for the sanity it provided during the months since EA, I think I'll have more time to pursue my other interests if I have a guaranteed spot in medical school. Parts of Brown separate from PLME also really appeal to me: namely, the open curriculum.

mea, I think you should consider exactly what your goal is at Yale. Is it to get into an equal or better med school than Feinberg? Then you'll have to get a 3.7 GPA at least as well as have great EC involvement. The 3.7 GPA will be manageable for you (4000 SAT right?) if you're willing to work your ass off. I'm sure you could pull off the EC's as well- again, if you're ready to put in some massive effort. So the question is...do you want to accept that workload?

let us know what you both eventually decide to do. Either way you can't go wrong :)
