yes, you can take LS1 and LS2 at the same time.

but why would you??

Hush...let's sit back and watch his failure.

Torrancecali:

Well, let's just say that you'll get no sleep if you take LS1 and LS2 at the same time.

I thought LS1 was supposed to be easy.

14C and 14D are ochem, and i think 153 is too

thanks for your replying..
but my question is i took the 20/30 series for gen chem but i can switch it to 14 series 0-chem?(pre-med)

torrancecali, what is your major? and how much of the 20/30 series have you taken?

AnthroB.S. and took chem20A,20B,20L,30AL so far... people are saying 30series for 0chem is harder so i want to take 14series instead is it possible?

how did you take 30AL before 30A? in any case, because you've already taken 30AL, you won't be able to switch since then you'd be taking classes that overlap... anyway, i did take the 30 series here and it wasn't as bad as people are making it out to be. just go to class, do the homework (even though it won't be collected) and study. it wasn't THAT difficult. most of it is memorization and applying the same concepts over and over in similar instances...

Am I supposed to take 14B and BL at the same time? Same question for 14C and CL. If not, wouldn't it take 6 quarters to finish 14A, B, BL, C, CL, and D?

You can take 14BL at the same time as B or anytime after. It could take 6 quarters but some people will do C and BL together or do summer school etc.

20/30 series are entirely doable. I don't think one series is better than another for pre-med. I hope this isn't affecting what major you pick (physical science vs life science), since you should pick one that you are genuinely interested in, in any case.

it is doable for sure thats why there are people taking it, but the key is that chances are your GPA for med school will be better when you taking the easier classes right?

^that's correct. gpa is one of the most important things. major is not important at all. so do what you like, but make sure you do well.

is it good to do 14A in fall, 14B in winter, 14C in spring then 14BL and 14CL in summer??

labs in the summer are REALLY intense. but you could do it if you had to.

damn im screwed... the 30series for o-chem....this fall damn! nervous!

Hey guys, I’m going to be a junior transfer at UCLA, MIMG major. I will be taking the 20/30 Series. My 20’s are complete and for the 30’s, I have articulation agreements from my community college that has given me credit for 30A, and 30BL. I will be taking Chem 30B this coming Fall 2010 Quarter and Chem 30C for the Winter. I need to know if I need to also take Chem30CL for medical school?

Medical schools say they want ONE YEAR of O-CHEM with Lab. So I’m not sure if that means one year of OCHEM LAB…

The UCLA career center states:
Physical, life or non-science majors: Chemistry 20A, 20B/L, 30A/AL, 30B/BL, 30C*; plus 153A/L (biochemistry). *Chem 30CL may not be required for applicants from the life science majors.

I called the Chem30CL professor as well and he told me that I should call the medical schools and ask them myself, but that is a very meticulous process.

If anyone has a simliar problem, please get back to me as soon as you can. Thanks

you dont need it. you have a year of gchem + lab with 20A/B/20L/30AL (you have an extra lab class for med school but you need it for MIMG…thats fine). your year of ochem + lab is 30A/B/BL. CL is not required for med school or for MIMG. you also dont need 30C.

im 99% sure about this. look on the MIMG website:

http://www.mimg.ucla.edu/undergrad/preparation.html

30C and 30CL are both not required.

zzzboy,

Thanks for replying back, I really appreciate that. I’ve been calling around and doing a lot of research. But I think there are still a few problems.

You said that my year of ochem is 30A, 30B, and 30BL when really that it is 2 quarters of lecture and 1 quarter of lab. I’m sure you see where I’m going with that cuz medical schools say they want 1 year of ochem lecture with lab. But yeah, you are wrong about the Chem 30C requirement, although it may not be required for the MIMG, it is a requirement for medical school.

Copy paste that and click the first link that says “Medical school Requirements”
[UC Irvine premed requirements - Google Search](<a href=“UC Irvine premed requirements - Google Search”>UC Irvine premed requirements - Google Search)

It also says to take 30C if your a premed PhySci major and on the UCLA career Center it says to take 30C. I’ve also talked to other premeds as well about this requirement and a doctor I work with.

As for 30CL… I’m still a bit weary. It seems as though I dont need it and I could also use biochemistry lab 153L as a substitute for this ochem lab. Do you have any references?

thanks

ok, so take 30C. i dont really know much about the 20/30 series and how it counts for med school.

taking 2 classes + 1 lab classes DOES count as a year of of chem + lab, though. ucla is weird in that we have separate lab classes…most schools have them combined. 2 quarters of pure learning and 1 quarter of pure lab is enough to satisfy a year. this is what all 14 series kids do, and its fine (14A/B/BL and 14C/D/CL).

biochem lab will not count for ochem lab. thats for sure.
