Pre med colleges(not so expensive ones)

So I'm an aspiring doctor and I've been looking for colleges which have a good pre med program. I intend on majoring in either biochemistry or neuroscience. Being an international student, I'm looking for affordable colleges as my family isn't ready to dish out a lot on my undergrad years(wanna save all that up for medical school). Any suggestions ? :)

South Dakota State University has a list price of about US$16,000 per year and offers a major in biochemistry:

However, no particular major is required to do pre-med.

What about universities in your country of citizenship or residency?

OP-- please be aware that the chances of you being accepted in a US medical school are extremely poor. Many US med schools will not even consider international students for admission, and of those that do admit internationals, only 5 or 6 offer any kind of financial aid to internationals.

Can you/your family finance the entire cost of your medical education? (~$400,000)

Before you come to the US in hopes of attending medical school here, please look over this list and see how limited your options are when it comes to US medical schools

[NAAHP: Medical School Admission Policies Towards Non-U.S. Citizens](<a href=“Home - NAAHP”>Home - NAAHP)

It’s generally suggested that if you want to practice medicine in the US, you complete your professional education in your home country and apply for a US medical residency. That process is explained here:

[ECFMG | Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates](http://www.ecfmg.org/)

~~~~
If you still want to come to US for your undergrad studies, any accredited US or Canadian college or university can adequately prepare you to take the MCAT.
And you need to define affordable. Can you pay $60,000/year? $40,000/year? $25,000/year? $10,000/year? Nothing?
You may also want to post to the International Students Forum:
[International Students - College Confidential](International Students - College Confidential Forums)
People there have been through the process and can tell you which schools tend to be both open toward accepting international students and offering them financial aid.
Thanks a ton ucbalumnus and WayOutWestMom! :slight_smile: all that information was really helpful and definitely an eye opener for me. I was absolutely unaware of the policies of the medical schools towards non-US citizens. Well, now I’m reconsidering going to the states for med school altogether.
