Pre Med considering Pre Law

Hi everyone, I'm currently a sophomore in college very confused about what I want to pursue. For as long as I can remember, I have wanted to pursue medicine, but since entering college I have begun questioning that decision.

Last year, I took both general biology and general chemistry classes barely getting Bs in all of them, both semesters. This year, I planned to take Physics and Organic Chemistry, but I dropped out of Organic Chemistry early in the semester, and I'm barely getting a B in Physics.

I came into college as a Sociology and Spanish major, and I absolutely love writing. And I feel as though I do not have skills in the sciences at all, not to mention no desire to learn any of the material.

My friends and family constantly tell me that I should consider the Pre-Law path because I am a good public speaker, I love to write, and I am very opinionated and passionate about specific issues.

I am confused because I am becoming more and more irritated with my science classes, dreading taking another semester of Physics, when I could be taking Anthropology or a Public Health class.

I'd love some advice regarding making the transition from Pre-Med to Pre-Law, or whether you think that I shouldn't be worried about only having Bs in all my pre med requirements.

My current GPA is a 3.5 because of my science classes. I consistently get As in all other classes.

If anyone was pre-med and is now Pre Law, or in Law school, I would love to hear from you too. Sorry that is is so long, I want to make sure I give you as much information as I can about myself!

Thansk for the feedback!

please do not decide to go to law school because, “My friends and family constantly tell me that I should consider the Pre-Law path because I am a good public speaker, I love to write, and I am very opinionated and passionate about specific issues.” Unless the people telling you to go into law are themselves lawyers, don’t listen to them – they do not know what it means to be a lawyer. If any of them are lawyers, have them explain to you exactly what they do and why they think those skills would make you a good lawyer.

also, please realize, you do not need to do any specific undergraduate curriculum for law school. in fact you’ll find threads here discussing why you shouldn’t study “pre-law.” so you don’t have to decide whether to go to law school now. and you should only decide to apply to law school if you fully understand what it means to be a lawyer.

please don’t see things as a choice between medical school and law school. there are other careers. you just may not know what other careers would meet your interests and skills. why not go to your school’s career guidance office and see if they can help you identify ways to explore other options.
