Hey everyone, just finished my first year of undergrad. Definitely a new experience, I’m a first gen student and I felt like coming in I was a bit unprepared for what to expect. However 2nd semester I picked it up a bit and adjusted better, but still feel like I could have done better. These past two semesters I took Biology 141 and 142 as well as Get chem 1 and 2 with the labs. However I feel like I didn’t do as well as I wanted to do. And I was wondering if I still had a chance. First semester ended with a 3.4 and 2nd I’m probably ending with a 3.6. I just wanted to know from anyone with experience as to where I am in terms of my situation with pre med and if it’s still possible to do well. Next year I will also be taking orgo and calc 1 in terms of pre med reqs
Bio 141 B
Bio 142 B+
Gen chem 1 B-
Gen chem 2 B
Both chem labS A-
Bio lab 141 A-
Bio lab 142 A
It is of course still possible- but it’s not going to get easier.
Have your test grades gone up over the course of this term- are you getting As on your tests now? If not, do you know why not?
Did you ace Math, Bio & Chem in HS? If so, what is different now, and can you address any of the factors? Have you evaluated / adapted your study skills and process? If not, what can you do to prep for Organic and Calc over the summer?
They have gone up, i managed to get an upward trend from first to second semester. In high school I was a good student especially in calc and bio. Chem was always a bit more of a struggle but still did well. This summer I’m reading organic chemistry prep books just to get some foundational stuff down. And yes I’ve adapted my study skills, definitely different from high school and i definitely had to adapt the 2nd semester from the first. Guess I wasn’t ready for going into a relatively difficult college but I’m going to try my best next semester.
