I'm going to attend the University of Texas at San Antonio freshman year under the "CAP" program that UT Austin offers. After freshman year, you get automatic admittance into UT Austin. I was wondering what should I do freshman year at UTSA for medical school? Apart from aiming for a 4.0.

Well…

Will you be coming in with any AP Credits or dual credits?

What is your major?

Since you’re only going to be there for one year, you might take mostly the Gen Ed classes that you’ll need to graduate…What does UT require for Gen Ed?

I’ll have AP credits for US History and French. I’m taking around 5-6 APs this year, so I’m still not sure how many in total. My inquiry is not on the classes but the ECs. What should I do apart from academics? Do students usually start research first year? Or is it mainly community volunteering and hospital volunteering?

You could start shadowing doctors and volunteering at hospitals.

You could ask some of your profs if they need any help with research.

Alright, thanks for the reply.
