Pre-Med in Texas?

Which schools are best for pre-medical students in Texas? I would like a range of schools...the dream, just right, no problem...if you guys wouldn't mind. Thank you so much!

Course Load: IB Diploma candidate
some AP classes
GPA: unweighted, 3.75
weighted, 4.04/5.0
Rank: 57/1175

The strongests overall would include...
U of Texas-Austin
Texas A&M
Texas Tech University
Rice University

Depending on your interest (undergraduate interest Biology, Zoology, Chemistry, Microbiology, etc) also think about these places...
U of Texas-Arlington
Prairie View A&M (Historically Black College, good professional school placement)
Baylor University (very conservative place)

Thank you LakeWashington!
I've also heard that Trinity University, UT Southwestern, Austin College and UT Dallas were strong pre-medical in Texas...is this true?

I'd say that Rice and UT Austin are the strongest overall.

Thanks world changer, but I also want to apply to other schools. Does anyone else know anything about AC, UTSW or Trinity?

Ut southwestern is a grad school. no premed.

I would say UT Austin or Rice

Austin College is pretty good for premed and they give some nice scholarships

Trinity, no clue

Perhaps someone meant Southwestern University (Georgetown), which has an excellent track record of placement in medical school. They also offer outstanding scholarhip aid = check their website to see how much of a scholarship you would qualify for.

Just checked your stats, and you look to be competitive for the Brown Scholar (full ride) award.

Here's some more info on Rice:

"Students interested in medical school may pursue any major while at Rice, in addition to completing a Pre-Med advisory track. Rice has a 90% acceptance rate to medical school. With the Texas Medical Center (the largest medical center in the world) located right across the street, students have abundant opportunities to volunteer, intern, and conduct medical research while enrolled at Rice. Rice is in constant collaboration with institutions such as M.D. Anderson Cancer Center and Baylor College of Medicine, home to the DeBakey Heart Center."

Thanks fireflyscout, I appreciate it...the Brown Scholars Award looks amazing. But does this not contradict your statement, bigreddawgie, that UTSW is solely a graduate school? I thought that it offered undergraduate degrees...could one not major in biology and then go to graduate school at SW? Thank you for the information on Rice Redenbacher's...let's just hope that when it comes time to apply this fall I get accepted!

So no information on Trinity University in San Antonio? Perhaps it was Trinity in DC that someone was talking about...

I don't know much about Trinity but here's a link to their health profession/pre-med page of their website. Hopefully it'll help? :D

http://www.trinity.edu/departments/public_relations/Academic/fact_sheets/health_professions.htm

Thank you :D

Firefly referenced Southwestern, a private university. UT Southwestern is a public med school in Dallas.

Thank you Dorian Mode, that makes a lot more sense...I was getting the names confused.

yes, those are two diff schools

Thanks that really cleared things up! :)
