Hello, as an international student (EU citizen) I am concerned about getting a medical degree since it is virtually impossible in the US.

My college counselors have adviced me to go on a Biomedical Sciences program in the UK and then apply for Meidicine, thus increasing my chances by getting more practice, and theoretical knowledge. However, I was wondering if it is possible to go on a Pre-med undergraduate degree in the US and, after completeing it, to apply for Medicine in the UK.

do you mean relocate to the US or just temporarily live/work here? Do europeans do study abroad where you spend a semester or two at an institution in another country or is that a purely american thing?

I’m sorry I know it seems unclear. In order to study medicine in the UK I need some pre-med/biomedical degree before that to increase my chances of being accepted. So I guess my question is - if i do pre-med in the United States will it be applicable/acceptable in the United Kingdom when I apply for medical schools?

I thought that medicine was a degree in the UK which does not require you to take an undergraduate degree? I know many Canadian kids who go straight from HS to a UK medicine degree. I also thought the UK would allow EU students into their schools easily.

Are you saying that you do not have sufficient science preparation in HS to qualify for UK medical programme now?

No, I have sufficient science preparation but it is still extremely competitive and having a pre-med/biomedical degree during which I gain some experience with patients and/or in a hospital will significantly increase my chances. Anyway, I spoke with my counselor and it seems it is a legitimate way as long as I get into a good pre-med progamme in the USA. Otherwise, yes - it is possible to get directly into medicine but as I said chances are slimmer.

Hmm, I don’t know that it is smart to spend all the money to come to the states for undergrad, nor the time. But if admissions is that competitive, can you apply to both programs?
