Pre med major

What are some competitive science majors med schools like undergrads to take. I was thinking biochem/cell biology. I want to get good grades so i dont want my UD major courses to be very vigourous but i know all sciences will be.

The statistical evidence indicates that your major doesn't matter. Do whatever you want.

Does anyone have any experience with any science major that could steer me in the right direction in terms of difficulty and effectiveness of the differnt majors.

Varies dramatically from school to school.

Lets say UCs, any input? I am planning on goin to UCSD or UCLA.

you know, you shouldnt even have to ask this question, becuase if you know what you are passionate about in life, thats what you would study, regardless of whether you think or other people say it will give you a slight (nonexistent) edge in med school admissions or not. For example, I plan on majoring in Anthropology and minoring in environmental studies because im passionate about gaining knowledge in those areas. I also plan to go to med school. Do i think my makor will give me an advantage/disadvantage? No. Do I care? No. I refuse to study something i know i wont enjoy just to get me to med school. Just think about what you are passionate about and go from there. Even if you go into freshman year undecided, just take a bunch of courses from different areas and you never know what might spark in your mind.

I would warn you, however, that it's my belief that you should pick something which will make you a better doctor.

This is not the same thing as picking a major which will look better to medical schools, which you should not do. (Partly as a matter of ethics, partly because medical schools simply don't care.)

isnt it a good idea to major in something that will help u have a backup career if med school isnt right for u after u graduate?

What might you have in mind?

A business major, for example, doesn't conflict with premed requirements - but the internships you'd need to acquire as a business major probably would interfere with your hospital/research time.

like maybe pharmacy?

Well, but that doesn't really require a major. Pre-pharm requirements are pretty similar to pre-med requirements.

what about architecture or physical therapy
