(Ohio State university, Kent State, Cleveland State, Akron, Miami university OH, Bowling green state, University of Findlay.

→ please help me choose the best offer from the 5 first ( ranking )

* 45k $ ( my cost of attendance after aid )

2_ Miami University OH: * ranked 103
* Public Ivy
* 29K $

Miami ohio is an excellent choice with a decent price.
Did you remove Cleveland State because UFindlay is a better deal for you?

Have you check the acceptance rates in medical school for those universities?

thank you for your answer!!
i deleted Cleveland State because its not one of the best offers. the ranking is not good as these 3 and the price is high as kent ( lower ranking than UF and more expensive ) so Cleveland State is like Kent State ( tuition and criterias ) with a lower ranking.

thank you for your message !
yes !!
Ohio State and Miami are good institutions for pre med, with a high acceptance rate.

I happen to personally know the top advisor for health care professions at Cleveland State. She is passionate and she and her team really do an excellent job advising those who want to go into health professions after undergrad.

Still…I think you have other colleges that perhaps are better choices overall. You might change your mind and decide not to apply to medical schools…many do. It’s good to head to a college where other programs are also well regarded.

Where do you want to live? In a city like Columbus (Ohio State) or a smaller town like Oxford (Miami or Findlay).

Do you want a huge flagship university like the Ohio State University? Or a small private like Findlay.

Think of the OTHER factors beside which one has the best medical school placements.

thank you for your message !
i am searching for the best pre med program in ohio, with the best opportunities and the best net. I know that’s with no doubt Ohio State but when I see financial factor (after financial aid offer) I think I have to look at the #2 school, Miami University which is also a great school, a public ivy. but I am not sure this is just based on the informations found on internet

Miami University in Ohio is an excellent public university in my opinion. It’s not enormous. Oxford is a great college town. The school has long been known as a well regarded Ohio public university. I’m from Ohio…that was the case in the stone age and it still is.

I’m not sure what opportunities you will have for things like shadowing in Oxford. I just don’t know anything about their hospitals.

There are plenty of hospitals in Columbus.

You need to look at the big picture! You can major in anything in undergrad school here as long as you take the prerequisite courses to apply to medical school.

So…like I said…look at things OTHER than “which school is better for premed”. All of these schools send students to medical school. And they all have students who are not admitted to any medical schools.

thank you for your answer !
when I mean the best pre med offer, its because not all schools have the same elements to give to their student.
i will take loans to finance my education, and even if some schools like university of findlay gived good financial offer, I am ready to pay more ( take loans) for a better education.

You do know that your loan amounts are limited in your own name. Freshman get $5500 in Direct Loans…maxes at $7500 a year. Anything above that amount would require either a qualified cosigner or parent loan.

If you are thinking medical school…try not to take loans for undergrad…because your medical school costs here will be funded with loans, loans and more loans for four years. You won’t get “credit” in medical school for the medical school courses you took abroad towards your medical school degree.

Save your money for medical schools…and your loans.

The best value is Miami Ohio. Its very well known due to its merit scholarships (and Ohio’s#2 public university), beautiful, academically solid, excellent teaching, for almost half the cost of tOSU.
Its degree will be widely well-respected.
In addition, if you got a good scholarship, you mudt have gotten into the honors prorgram or scholars/research programs?

Btw, dont focus on rankings too much. Think of it in terms of groupings of 25 or 40.

thank you very much for your answer.

I never used me credit score (new), I don’t have cosigner I will take the loan on my name, my parents are not US persons( so no parent Plus I think). I hope receiving the maximum amount of federal loan.
then I will apply for private loans, I don’t know how it works, I hope the financial aid office will do it for me, I have no idea. but the only thing that I am really sure about is that I am not able to begin repayment loan before 7-8 years after disbursement. I heard that we should begun repayment of the loan just after the disbursement which is impossible for me. because I have no income and I am still in pre-med and I am focusing medical school.
Miami University 29k$ - 5.5k$(minimum)= approx 23k$ in private loan the first year.

please If you have more informations concerning the private loans share it with me.

Here are the loan amounts you can take in your name only. These are the federally funded Direct Loans:

Freshman $5500
Sophomore $6500
Junior $7500
Senior $7500

Any loan money in excess of that amount will either require a qualified cosigner or parents taking the loans form you. If neither can happen, you are going to have a difficult time securing loans here. Your credit score doesn’t matter…it’s your income and collateral that matter when you are applying for private loans. You have neither.

With regard to repayment of private loans…that is dependent on the provision of the loans.

How much did you anticipate taking out in loans annually to complete your undergrad? If you are planning medical school…the answer should be as close to $0 as possible because really, as stated…funding medical school will be HUGE loans, loans and more loans.

You will have to fill out FAFSA to get the $5,500 Federal Direct Student loan…have you done that?

I don’t know of any banks that will give a student with no income and no assets (assuming) a loan without a co-signer. College financial aid departments will not help you find private loans.

I agree with Thumper that you must minimize your undergrad loans. Med School will cost $300K-$400K and there are typically no scholarships for that, so that will all be loans too.

Do you have citizenship in another country in addition to the US?

I don’t think that you will be going to school in the US next fall. It sounds like you are trying to pay for your whole education yourself. I don’t even think that you can get the cost of Findlay to work. How much did Findlay give you? It looks like their direct costs are $47k/ year. That doesn’t include books, transportation, and medical insurance. You will need all three of them.

Your parents need to co sign loans for you but would likely have to secure them in the country where they’re currently living. Didn’t you have an uncle helping you or family in the US?

thank you very much for your help !!

i am transferring for the first time in usa ( I am us citizen living abroad and my parents are not US person- they never applied for US citizenship- my dual citizenship is moroccan)

I heard people say that " when we study in usa we pay everything after school" its the only thing I was knowing and now I am discovering that its more complicated that I was thinking.

in my situation, can i have the parent plus loan ? ( I am us citizen but not my parent and I need more money to cover my cost of attendance) do parent US citizenship required for parent plus loan ?

if I use the federal direct loan and my family contribution I will need more at least → 15k$/ year.

I have 2-3 years to finish my bachelor degree. ( Miami University took my credits from abroad )

I don’t think your parents are eligible to take the Parent Plus because they are not citizens.

@kelsmom ? Is this correct?

Can the parents apply and be denied? And would this student then be eligible for addition Direct Loan money?

@Rriffi212 you are looking at taking out about $90,000 in loans just to finish your bachelors degree. I don’t personally think this is a good plan even IF you can figure out a way to get these loans.
