Hey. I am a high school senior who wants to attend Georgia Tech. I want to pursue a medical career. My dad is a doctor, and I have a brother attending Tech for biomedical engineering too. My brother is taking biomed engineering as his major to ultimately get into med school and have a back up plan. For me, I want to take pre-med, but I'm not sure if I should biomed engineering for safety. I have no idea how hard Pre-med is at tech, but I'm aware that biomed engineering is sort of difficult but with hard work possible. I did a little research on my own to find that 80% of Pre-Med students at tech made it to a med school. I just don't want to hang off a cliff. I am probably salutatorian of my class, so there is no question of me not working hard. Yet, I am still a little uncertain of which major to select. Any advice will be helpful. Thank you all sincerely.

Simply put…the only advice we can give you, is that med schools care about GPA/MCAT, not major. As biomed major, you’d have a much harder time keeping up a high GPA, but you’d also be very well prepared on course material.

What you should find out is of that 80%, how many were biomed majors (or, even all forms of engineering). Most engineering majors don’t continue school past their BS.

Well, here is Georgia Tech’s career survey:

What subjects are you considering majoring in besides BME? Pre-med can be done alongside any major, although it may be a pretty crowded schedule in any engineering other than BME or chemical.
