Pre-med question

Hi! :) ok, so I wanted to know what subjects are best to major in, in college. I want to go to medical school, and my relatives have told me to major in biomedical engineering and physics and biology. That doesn't mean that I've completely decided what I'll be majoring in, since I'm going to be a junior in highschool soon and I have time to think about it. But I want to know what subjects people need to take in order to get into med school. I know that I have 2 years to think abou this and everything, but I would like to get an idea of it. Thanks!

It doesn’t matter what you major in. Major in something you like, that way you’ll be engaged enough to get good grades and keep a decent GPA. As long as your GPA and science GPA are decent (along with MCAT, extra curriculars, leadership, etc) it doesn’t matter what your major was. The only true requirement in terms of courses are the 10 requirements.

Theoretically, medical schools do not care what you major in.

Practically, certain majors include the premed curriculum as part of the major so you don’t have to plan separately to complete them. These usually include Biology, Chemistry and Biomed engineering. The applications also consider two separate GPAs - sciences and overall. So if you can major in a science which you like and can do well, then the GPA for sciences as well as overall would look good. If you choose music and don’t do so well in the science classes, you will be forced to take more science classes to improve your sciences GPA.
