Pre-Med Stats

So I'm trying to make a tough decision about my choice of college and was wondering what the stats are for UF pre meds. Like their acceptance rates to top and average medical schools, their average MCAT Scores, average GPA and such. I couldn't find these stats online so If anyone has them or at least some of them, It would helpful.

Thanks

You would be hard-pressed that kind of data, since the stats and acceptance rates is based on the individual student and what they have done, and not something based on the school itself.

From friends, people I know of, and so on attend:
UF (normal admissions + junior honors), FSU, UM (boca + miami), USF, Emory, EVMS, Vanderbilt, UVa, NYU, WUSTL, Albert Einstein, Mayo, Morehouse, Howard, Meharry, GWU, Georgetown, UNC, UCSF, San Juan Bautista, Wisconsin

Most had a 3.6> and MCAT ranged from 26-33 (the ones I know of). EC’s were generally high for all. A few did research with presentations and/or publications.

Some popular organizations to join include: AMSA, MAPS, HEAL, AED, SG, FAB (however not required). Also everyone volunteers/shadows at Shands or clinics in the surrounding communities.

Here are some of the research-oriented students:

To see if they have that kind of data you would have to email Mr. Kwong (rkwong@advising.ufl.edu)

I agree with the poster above, this is a very difficult question to have answered. For one thing, the overwhelming majority of ‘pre-med’ students don’t actually make it to med school, so you would have to account for these people and the fact that they lower the school’s ‘med school applicant/aspirant’ MCAT and GPA average.

In my opinion (I am a UF alum and currently in professional school at UF), your undergraduate school is for most purposes irrelevant to graduate school admissions. If you come to UF as an undergrad and truly work hard AND have the right aptitude, you should be able to earn a sufficient GPA and do well enough on the MCAT to get into med school, which is an accomplishment in and of itself.

As far as helping you get into a top school, whether you go to UF or UWF (not to knock the Argonauts), it really doesn’t matter, it primarily just comes down to your GPA and your MCAT. That being said, UF does have very good research opportunities for high achievers and volunteer opportunities at SHANDS, which are both pluses on med school applications.

More like:

GPA
MCAT
Clinical experience
Maturity
Interview skills
Breadth of the med schools to which you apply.

I posted this on your UCF question also.
Anyhow, this site is self reporting so it does not give you a true picture but it does have some usefull information.
You can search by “Undergraduate Institutuion” as well as by specifi"Medical School" that you are interested in.
