Does anyone have information on Pre-Medical experience at Yale, test curves, friends stories, or something? Also, should you take lower level courses like Chem 113a instead of Chem 118a because you know you would get a better grade? Do Medical Schools really know the difference?

From what I've heard, it's the usual pre-med experience--many people change their minds, orgo is a killer, etc.

but is the "usual" stressful pre-med experience exaggerated at Yale?

that would be great if a current pre-med student could answer

I don't think that would be possible, considering very few pre-meds at Yale have been at another school to which they could compare.

But in general, with the higher caliber of students, you would expect it to be more difficult than your average school.

It's competitive, just like premed at any other college.

someone told me that med schools look at gpa without much consideration for what school you went to..therefore, i've heard it recommended that a pre-med student should go to a not-ivy school where they can get the higher gpa easier

Not necessarily. Some med schools will adjust your GPA slightly based on the difficulty of your school.

Especially if its a top Medical school like Harvard, Duke, or Johns Hopkins.

You should look at what schools the top medical applicants are coming from. Harvard, Yale, etc....

well i dont think this counts for much, but i know a person who went pre med at yale but also majored in psychology...hes now at stanford med school

is there somewhere i can research stuff like this? and D&G, where can i research where the top medical applicants are coming from?

Sorry, premedporfavor, I could only find information on HLS, not HMS. It might not be of any help to you.

thank you for trying :)

Anyone know the acceptance rate for yale students applying to medical school? Maybe I should contact sakky for this info...

premedporfavor already started a thread similar to this. I am a sophomore premed at Yale (and so is luckystar) and we both posted on that thread.

You're missing the whole point of being at Yale. Get yourself a top level education at Yale, but if what you're interested in is the "highest gpa for the best med school", you're better off applying to the honors program at your state u.

Actually, even if you're just interested in "highest gpa for the best med school", you're still better off with a high-caliber institution such as Yale or Harvard. The top medical school entering classes are totally dominated by graduates of schools such as MIT, Yale, Harvard, etc.
