Pre-Med Suffolk Community College

Hey guys. This is just a backup plan in case I don’t get into SBU. I’m definetely doing pre-med but I’m not sure what classes to take at Suffolk Community College before I transfer. Should I do the joint program? Or just transfer after one year? I just want to be on the same track as the sophomores when I transfer to SBU. My main problem right now is what classes I should take for pre-med at Suffolk to transfer to Stonybrook!

Good question. If you’re thinking pre-med, the most important things you can do in your freshman year would be to knock out Calc and Chem. Make sure it’s the Chem for majors, not the Gen Chem; 133 and 134 are the ones you want. And the Calc you’re aiming for is the 141.

Other than that, just gen-ed core stuff is your best bet. Take your ENG 101, take a history course, a language, etc. Knock out some core requirements, add in the calc and chem, and you’ll be on track.

Hope this helps!

@sbuadmissions will going a year at a community college affect my chances of getting into medical school? Because it’s a community college it may seem weaker than going to a SUNY college

What matters most is that you do well. If you don’t get into medical school, it’s not going to be because of a freshman chemistry class.
