So during the Summer of 2015, I want to do a Research/volunteer or shadowing program. Does anyone know of any good summer programs for Pre-Med students?

There are many NSF or NIH funded REUs.

Are you a URM?

it’s probably a lot easier to get a position at your own school than one of these programs, FYI.

^Yes, much much easier and obtain a job also much easeir at your college. It required a great persistancy for my D. to get ANYhing at all during summers. So, enjoy yours just like she did, sleep in until 2pm, you will not be that free later in your life, enjoy while lasts. It has helped her to be very productive during school year.

That’s why I asked if the OP was a URM as they tend to have a better chance of acceptance at REUs, and there are other programs like SMDEP available.

This is your first post which means there is no information about whether you are in college, high school and/or which year of either. We are all making guesses.

@texaspg I am a Sophomore in college.

@medprep2016
That confuses things a bit.

What did you do last summer? What are you planning to do this summer? Why wait until next?

Shadowing is not known to provide too much benefit that requires a whole summer to do it.

Last summer I did volunteering at a hospital.
I wanted to do shadowing this summer, but I am taking a general chemistry class, so I will be unable to do shadowing until next year.

Is there a reason you can’t take the class and shadow this summer, or do some other type of volunteering or clinical experience?

You should look at NIH. They have research programs in different fields. The programs are competitive but I recall sitting in on a discussion about HIV/Aids. Looking back it was incredible how little they knew about the disease. The Infectious disease division knew the disease was going to revive their whole field.

Unfortunately the application deadline for NIH’s SIP has already passed.

The OP is looking for summer of 2015.
