Pre-Med Transfer: Good idea or bad?

I'm currently a freshman attending my state university. I have a 3.9 GPA and really decent EC's. I recently had interest in transferring to out of state schools which much better financial aid, amazing research opportunities, and also an opportunity to go out of state, as I feel I am wayy too attached to my home.

Would it be detrimental if I transfer to a different university? Some obvious disadvantages I'm aware of are that I'd have to get used to a new environment once more, credit transfer, not knowing professors for LOR's as much, discontinuity in my EC's, etc.

Still, the prospect of going to a different university outside of my state is a wonderful prospect that I highly endeavor for. I would appreciate anyone's thoughts on how these advantages/disadvantages would weigh out. Thanks in advance!

This is a good topic for the Search function, the word ‘transfer’ will yield many relevant threads.

D1 transferred as a soph, but won’t apply to Med school for couple of years, so too early to tell.

Why are you thinking of transferring now? You’re doing well in your in-state, it’s less expensive, and you have decent ECs. Sounds good to me. I wouldn’t worry about those concerns you mentioned. Obviously, you got used to your current school easily enough. But still, why change?

Only a few schools give good financial aid to transfer students.

Which schools were you considering?

I was considering Columbia, Brown, and Dartmouth. With my family’s current financial status, I qualify for their need-blind aid and will pretty much get 100% paid (or at least considerably fewer loans compared to the university I am attending currently).

I just want to explore a new setting and a new challenge cause as I mentioned earlier, I feel too attached to my home. If I were for some reason forced to stay here at my 4 years, I still feel that I can make the most out of it, prosper, and go to a fine medical school. I just want to try at a different college setting to somewhat spice up my undergraduate experience. By all means, if I get rejected by all my transfer choices, I will not be displeased that much. It’s a win-win situation for me. I just wanted to see how other people would weigh the advantages/disadvantages from their perspectives.

Need blind is not the same as providing 100% of demonstrated need. Need blind refers to an admission policy that says that a school will not take into consideration that you are applying for FA in their admission decision.

Brown is need-AWARE for transfer applicants and states that it has limited FA for transfers:
