Pre-Med Transfer to BU, BC, and a few other schools after freshman year?

@DadTwoGirls Alrighty thank you! I didn’t want to get my hopes up at applying and not getting in anywhere. Thanks for all the help!

Another perspective would question your choice of BU and BC specifically for the premed-type track. Each has a reputation for being quite difficult on premeds, with significant competitive and unpleasant weeding-out. (Known as “grade-deflation.”)

If you like those schools and think you may end up not pursuing med school, then fine. Both have fine reputations in sciences–and other academics. (Personally, I really like them too.)

But given your issue with the withdrawal or possible B, and the expense (and effort) involved in transferring out–perhaps an extra year, and then later, med school–if I were you I’d look for transfer options that were more premed enhancing than either of those. (Or maybe suck it up and stay put, I hate to say.)

To get an idea of what I’m talking about with BU and BC premeds, check out the CC threads on that and online premed student reviews. You might second-guess your options.

When applying to med school, you will have to report the W. Unless you end up with an A in the class when you retake, it is going to not be favorable if you still get a B after a retake. Don’t assume you are going to go up a grade taking it a second time. I would advise my kid to take the B-. FWIIW, my kid had a C+ on her transcript and got into multiple med schools. And I agree, the grass isn’t always greener, especially when you need to build relationships with faculty for rec’s, etc.
