I am from California and was wondering strictly based on rankings/opportunities, which school is better for a pre-med student?. I visited UW and fell in love with it, but my parents don’t like the fact that it is nearly impossible to get into the UW medical school as a California resident and believe it might be a waste of money. But, my take on it is that UW has so many opportunities for research, internships, and clinical experience while UCR’s medical school is pretty new and doesn’t have the reputation that UW has as a medical school. What is your take on UCR and will the school provide me the supplies, experience, and the opportunities to get me ready for med school.
As a California resident, stay in California for the lower cost (since medical school is expensive) and less difficult logistics applying to California medical schools.
As a student at UCR, there should be plenty of pre-med extracurricular opportunities at UCR’s medical school, and interviewing there if you make the interview stage involves no travel logistics.
Where you go to UG has virtually NO impact on med school admissions. You can go to UCR and go to UW for med school.
