i was accepted to both and was wondering which would be most beneficial towards getting into med school. is it true that ucsd sciences are less competitive (less rigorous grading) than ucla?

Not at all. Pre-med at SD is incredibly competitive.

Its going to be very competitive at either school, and both would be great places if you’re interested in Med School (especially since they both have great ones right here–hello networking!) There are professors here who teach at both the regular college and med school, so they could tell you the ins and outs. I know I’ve talked to a few professors who do that (and I’m not even pre-med or science major…the opportunity has just arisen). I don’t know but I assume LA has the same sort of system? Don’t quote me.

If you are solidly set on med school, I’d try to contact the undergrad departments at both schools and see how you like them and what kind of options are available.

Both will prepare you well and both are competitive. Choose the place where you’d feel the happiest at (factoring in costs, of course) because you’ll learn better and study better. And choose the place where you’d feel like you could be a rockstar and stand out among your peers when it comes time to find rec letters.
