thanks

heyy i just got in pre-med to u mass yesterday! i know its a funnn school and i know i will be taking that fun with me to the pre-med dept!

i got into pre-med too! how challenging are the pre-med classes at umass?

i'm not on the med track so i don't know anything about the program. but i know the faculty member who directs the undergraduate biology program and does pre-med advising, and he's an intolerably condescending individual. i know one student who dropped out of pre-med because he couldn't stand the guy, and apparently there are others who have done the same. i'm not saying you shouldn't do pre-med at umass, but be forewarned.

oh no that does not sound good, rhombat can you go into a little more detail as to why this guy is soo bad??? i having a really hard time picking between umass pre-med and washington college i could use all the pro's and con's thanks!

my friend is black and got sick of his patronizing attitudes towards minorities. basically, he's an old guy who hasn't caught on to the fact that students today are much more independent than they used to be. i sat on a committee with him where he would moan about lack of respect for authority, and he kept telling stories about minority students who are determined to not let other minority students succeed. he blames this for the fact that there are few pre-med blacks and hispanics; the students i speak to blame him and his patronizing attitudes.

more generally, he fancies himself an authority on student affairs, and inserts himself into every student affairs committee he can get into. he knows virtually nothing about student attitudes, but loves lecturing students on how we should act. and oh yeah, he looks a lot like dick cheney, which isn't his fault but it doesn't help with my opinion of him.

as you can see, i mostly know him not in his role as pre-med advisor. but from the knowledge that i do have of him, and the things i've heard about him from former pre-med students, i would be wary.

bump, does anyone else have anything to say on this topic?

is PRE-MED @ UMASS EZ...

grade inflation / deflation?

im most likely going into pre-med next year @ UM-A.. does anyone have any other input?
