Pre-med

At Explore USC, I talked with the HP major advisors about pre-med acceptances to medical school, but they "didn't have any statistics." Do any of you know how well USC students fare in the applicant pool to medical school? I'm aiming high, like Harvard, John Hopkins, or UCSF, and I don't know if they take undergraduate school "prestige" into account. Any anecdotes would be great.

Unrelated topic - I'm trying to appeal my financial aid right now, but I doubt they will give me more grants, just loans. Are there any scholarships I can apply for (and have a good chance of getting) once I get to USC? My parents can't pay more than room and board, leaving me 15,000 in tuition to make up after the financial aid. Also, is there a "Trustee scholars" waitlist of some sort? I got Presidential, and my scores were just as high (or higher) than the stats some Trustee scholars posted up here, so I feel like maybe I was close to being considered. If someone turns down their Trustee money, would they pass the scholarship on to the next in line?

Just wanted to thank all the current students and parents for being on here to help us prospies out. I've left messages on other forums (like OSU's, my safety if I can't pay for USC), and no one replies. I'm sure USC thanks you, too, for giving a good impression of your school!

A premed at USC reported around 70%-ish, but did not actually have data to back it up with. However, USC is a very good school, and the premed program there is probably just as good at many other top schools.

At the accepted student's reception on 4/1 in HI, the USC speakers also said USC undergrad students get about a 70% acceptance rate when applying for med schools. My friend's son graduated from USC with a degree in chem or bio & applied widely to med schools. He was rejected by all but his 1st choice, UH Med school, where he's happily completing his 1st year. They also said that a goodly number of the biomed engineers are pre-med.
They said it is possible to try to get more merit aid while you're a student at USC, especially if you do very well. I'd call the FAid department & figure out what it entails tho & I suspect it's extremely competitive & tough to get.
Congrats on your merit aid! I think they look at other factors in granting trustee scholarships, including what field the student will be studying, interview, research & who knows what else. I don't believe anyone at our kds' HS has gotten Trustee, but many have received the Presidential scholarship.

id like to know the same. i'm planning to transfer and i'm wondering how its program compares to ucla and ucsd's. what are the advantages and disadvantages of all three programs?
