Pre-med

Is the pre-med program good here? I’m not sure how to rank each and every college’s pre-med program which is why I went on USnews and then looked up the major-Biological Sciences, and it was ranked 42nd. It seems pretty good to me, so i’m not sure if this is what I should be looking at.

PSU actually seems to have a specific Premedicine major (http://science.psu.edu/premed), which not many other schools have. That could be a pro or a con depending on your viewpoint, I guess. You don’t have to do the Premed major to prepare for medical school. While you’re waiting for more knowledgeable answers you could check out the premed FAQ: http://science.psu.edu/premed/faqs .

I’m also very interested in the pre Med “atmosphere” at penn state so if any could offer any information or experience. Not necessarily with the major but like professors, research, shadowing etc…

My advise would be to think long and hard before you decide to do a pre-med major. Should you change your mind about med school half way through, you will be in a very tough spot. Much better choice would be something that interests you that has overlap with a majority of the med school required courses.
