I have been accepted to brown, uchicago and northwestern which place would be the best for pre med
Brown would inflate the GPA compared to Northwestern/Chicago. So if you want the highest possible GPA as a pre-med Brown would be the obvious choice.
How have you been accepted to all three of these schools? Brown’s early program, for example, is binding, and you’d be committed to attend.
^and Northwestern is ED as well. Can’t ED to 2 schools…
So at Brown University there’s no such thing as failing since almost all grades are inflated?
^Brown has an open curriculum, the option to take classes pass fail, a prolonged shopping period and no plus/minuses.
Yes you can fail but you have the option to drop and retake, classes are rigorous, taking all classes pass/fail will adversely impact graduate school opprtunities, and the lack of +/- can arguably inflate or deflate your implied GPA. Students typically (and I hate to generalize) are extremely collaborative and non competitive with one another, while being extremely prideful in challenging themselves as individuals and pursuing demanding areas of study. Given how competitive it is to gain admissions the typical Brown student pushes themselves extremely hard. They tend to choose Brown to avoid a cut throat atmosphere that will allow and encourage their academic curiosity while fostering friendships and a team approach.
Additionally it should be noted that this approach encourages students to explore a variety of academic subjects and ensures that all participants in a class are there based on academic curiosity not obligation. No one is taking Rock for Jocks to fulfill their science class, etc…
@Collegebound021 : What you said can’t be true as pointed out by others.

Yes, you can’t fail a course at Brown but you can’t pass a premed course without great efforts either, not to mention getting an A. Here is the thing, you choose a premed course; you go to an exam; the median score of the exam is 56; there are some people scoring above 90 (big standard deviation values. It is a very good exam which can distinguish who actually learns the course material.) If you unfortunately scored at 30, what do you do? Most people would drop the course and move on. At Brown, no failed course (I assume you have dropped it right before final exam) will show up on your transcript. You can choose to retake the course if you believe you will succeed the second time around. But if you realized that you might never learn the material at the high level, you would permanently move on to something else. You can’t do this at other schools. If you failed a course at other schools, it will show up on your transcript. Your GPA is screwed. A girl at UPenn jumped in front of a train three years ago when she realized that she couldn’t drop a course she is failing. Yes, there are courses which you can get an easy A.
Brown’s vibe is non-competitive. You are competing with yourself.

What is the actual situation? Where have you actually been accepted?
What are your stats?
Where else have you applied?
A ■■■■■. You can’t be accepted to these 3 schools early, and besides no one on college confidential in their right mind who’s pre med would even consider Chicago over Brown if they’ve been reading :))
