What would be the best college to go to if you want to go to medical college?

One where you can get a good GPA!

JHU and Duke both have great pre-med programs. It is also a good idea to go to a school that has a medical school unless you get into a really elite LAC like Amherst; nearly all medical schools give a slight advantage to applicants who went to that school for undergrad.

The most important thing about choosing a college for pre-med is that you find a place where you can be successful in all aspects - academically, emotionally and socially. Med school admissions is a very holistic examination of the candidate and so you need to excel with GPA, MCAT scores, campus involvement/leadership, research, and clinical experiences. So finding a school where you can be successful is important.

Prestige really doesn't matter, and you should ignore acceptance rates that schools advertise. Schools like the Ivies have great placement rates because of how talented and motivated the students are, other smaller schools have great rates b/c of pre-med committees - committees that pre-screen potential applicants and only allow those applicants who are extremely competitive to apply. They do this by writign extremely glowing letters of rec, and those who don't meet their standards don't get the letter and profs at the schools are discouraged from writing letters for students applying to medical school.

Not true about all medical schools giving advantage to their graduates.

State schools will give preference to in-state residents (regardless of where you attended undergrad - eg: I was a legal resident of Kansas, went to school in Nebraska but had an advantage still when applying to Kansas' medical school)

Most private schools really don't give you an advantage. There are some like Creighton who do "look out for their own" but most don't. There is some discussion of this on the pre-med part of this board.

Good point- I should have qualified my statement more. Some do and some don't. JHU does, which is nice because the undergrad is easier to get into than other schools with top medical schools.
