Hey, I'm a junior and I was just curious. I was looking at the majors they offer at UCLA and there wasn't a pre-med major/program. Exactly how can you go pre-med? Do you just sign up for a different major and then take classes that would qualify for pre-med?

There isn't such a thing as a major called "pre-med," just like there's no such thing as a pre-law major. If you want to go to medical school, you take the courses that medical schools require and you take the MCATs.

Pre-Med simply means you intend to go on to medical school.

yea brandnew basically said it all. haha.

to get into medical school, its recommended to take a science related major so you can learn the sciences thats tested on the MCAT, but not even a science-related major is required (#2 most popular "pre-med" major is english).

if you're meaning special pre-med PROGRAMS, ucla only has the thomas haider program, which is undergrad at UCR, if you rank top 24 students, then you get a seat at UCLA Medical School. otherwise, UCLA doesn't have any special programs that some other schools have. nevertheless, ucla "pre-med" related majors (bio, biochem, chem, psychobio, neurosci, physiological sci, etc etc) are very strong.
