I wanted to double major in engineering (undecided which one) and pre-med. but i got an e-mail from my ucsd counselor that if you double major both of your majors can't be in the same department. So I wanted to ask that is there pre-med, or any other major that gets you into the best medical college that is not in the engineering department so I could double major.
thanks a lot

Yes, pre-med is the best major to pick if you are premed. A secret offering of the Biology Dept. ;)

yeah, good luck trying to declare a pre-med major at this school :P

What they are so sarcastically hinting at is that there isn't a "pre-med" major offered at UCSD. In fact, there are actually very few schools that offer a "pre-med" major. How it works is you declare any major and make sure to complete the general med school requirements: 1 yr. chem, bio, English, etc. and you're eligible.

Oh, thanks tabsycoist. I'm a newbie in the medical field, and had no interest in it until recently. My major is undeclared, and my primary focus was Engineering So I don't know a lot about pre-med.
Could you tell me or refer me to some place where I could see the detailed medical school requirements. What do I need?
by 1 year, how many credits/quarters etc. do you refer too.
Thank you.

Revelle's website had this up. Hope it helps.

Revelle College - UCSD

why don't u look up bioengineering: premedical

first thing that popped in my head when I read your post, albeit its ABET accredited, you get the best of both worlds! (..at least i think u do)

Keep in mind that you can "declare" pre-med with any given major, whether it be fine arts or engineering, you just need to make sure you fulfill the pre-med req. (hopefully with good gpa and "scholastic achievement")

OK, thanks a lot people.
Now I know a lot more, and know what to do :).
Thanks everyone (The Revelle College link helped a lot even though I'm in Warren (: )

bioE: premed ISN'T accredited.

sorry thats what i meant.. forgot the NOT. : )

BioE Premed has a required course called MAE 9 or MAE 10. MAE stands for Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. The MAE 9 is C/C++ programming and is a required course to determine whether you'll be admitted into the BioE Premed major at the end of your freshman year. Good luck.
