Pre-medicine prereqs at community college

Hi everyone,
So i need some advice about cc’s and medical school. First, I should mention that I have two bachelors degrees, but lack the science/math to apply to medical school. Would taking ALL of my prereqs at a community college be a good idea? I’ve heard that medical schools don’t prefer that. My reason for choosing CCs, is cost. It would be much cheaper to go that route than a post-bacc. program or another BS.

It’s non-ideal and many med schools will hold that against during admission consideration. In fact, there are med schools that will not accept CC credits for pre-reqs or will not accept CC pre-reqs unless supplemented by additional more advanced science coursework at a 4 year college.

I suggest a compromise: since you’ll need to take biochemistry–which isn’t offered at a CC–you should consider taking biochem plus 2 or 3 upper level bio classes at 4 year college after you finish physics, intro bio, gen chem, ochem, calc and stats at the CC.

Taking pre-reqs at a CC also won’t work unless your GPA from undergrad is impeccable. If your undergrad GPA is less than med school level (below 3.6), you really need to take your sciences at a 4 year college to demonstrate you can compete against the stronger competition at a 4 year. Adcomms want proof you’ll be able to succeed in the very academically challenge situation that is medical school.

We had several successful self directed career changer postbacc cases among our friends at local directional state schools. They are not much more expensive than cc, you might want to check out those close to you.

Is there a state Univ that you can commute to?
