Pre-Nursing Major Questions

Hi, I am a senior interested in applying to UNR as a Pre-Nursing Major. I just have a couple of questions:

  1. What GPA is needed to be admitted into UNR? I have a 3.6 high school GPA right now, and I don’t know if this is competitive enough to get in. I also do have 100+ hours of volunteer service at a hospital.
  2. Do AP classes in high school count at UNR? I have taken AP English and AP Stats, and was wondering if I would need to take these in college because I have the AP credit.
  3. Are the classes or nursing program at UNR impacted?

Any help is appreciated. Thank you so much!

  1. A 3.6 is perfectly fine. At that level of GPA, the question is not whether you'll get in but whether you'll get a scholarship.
  2. Yes, mostly. Whether they'll apply towards your major is a different story. Some may only be counted as elective credits. Google "UNR AP credits" to find a conversion chart.
  3. I'm not a nursing major, so I couldn't tell you. I do know that you'll need to apply to the nursing program after 2 to 3 years of "regular" classes. Most nursing people I know initially major in Community Health Sciences before they apply to the Orvis School of Nursing.
