Pre orientation programs and move in

Okay so I"m in CA (per email last night woot), but i'm sorta unclear about move in. I thought move in was on the 3rd.. "Students can move their belongings into their dorm on Saturday, September 3" in the OA papers.. then on the CA attachments it talks about September 4th and then goes on to say "you will be able to pick up your room key at the housing office...and move into your room from 11 am- 3 pm that day" . Are we taking this as OA ppl move in the room sooner than CA ppl (b/c they have to leave a day earlier). does anybody think if CA ppl are already goign to be there on the 3rd they'll let us move in earlier too? Or do we think there's a definite "hey if you're oa you can move in 3rd, sorry ca has to wait till the next day" . jussst curious b/c i'm trying to coordinate the family drive down/stay over fun stuff. thanks. waits for phil to answer.. because ..phil has the answer everything or if not he has me fooled

You're not really moving in...just kind of dumping your stuff there before you leave, so I think CA is a day later, since you leave later.

Haha, well...thanks, rockettgerl. My guess is that they'll have the OA list on the 3rd for check-in, so if you're not on the list, you probably won't be able to get your room key until the 4th. Like zante said, it's not really move-in, just drop-stuff-off-and-leave. Real move-in occurs on the 10th, when Frosh Week starts. For family coordination purposes, go with the 4th because you will for sure be able to get your room key then.

Keep in mind that no one can claim a room within a suite (within a quad or a triple, if that's what you get) until the RCA/RA comes at the beginning of Frosh Week. So no worries about not having a fair chance with the rooms within your suite :)

While officially you are supposed to wait until all roomates arrive until you chose rooms, it is often the case that this does not happen. A lot of people moving in for OA/CA, will claim a bedroom, if not a bed because they have to sleep somewhere (the OA people get back to campus the day before move in day and have to sleep in their dorm overnight). Also, international orientation is that week and they stay in the dorm rooms as well. Many times, if the room is a quad, 2 or more individuals in the room will be on OA (or CA) and will claim a bedroom and set up that bedroom when they move in early.
The RA will only get involved in room selection if there is a problem and he/she needs to mediate. after getting your housing assignment, you should contact your roomates via email etc. to figure out how you want to chose beds and bedrooms

yeah see that's what i was thinking.. i'm a bit paranoid after getting royally screwed over at jsa yale for the summer when my bus broke down and was later than the others and i got stuck with the worst room b/c my suitmates didnt wait... and so i'm like "uh huh, not happenign for a full yr" lol

Well, since you are doing CA, you should have the upper hand this time.

Which makes me worried, since I am not doing OA/CA.

Rockettgerl, which CA?

(I was a CAer, too -- Kimberton Hills.)

Ashley '06

we apparently dont find out which until august

;_; email? we're to get an email?

So we don't find out what CA or OA activity we're doing until August?

According to the OA site, OA people find out mid-July.

lol we're gonna be bombarded w/ so much info in mid-july :-)

It IS mid-july and I'm not getting the info I want. Blah to AlcoholEdu and gimme my rooming info already!

i have yet to get that alcohol thing hrm..., but i was just on the writing center page and it says we're supposed to find out "in july" which semester we have writing seminar and that "mid-july" they'll be posting the fall writing seminars...so yeah, tha'tsmore to look out for

OA mailing in the mail today! It didn't say anything about the specific trip I was assigned to, and most of the papers looked similar to what we received in that other packet before but in more detail (ie, pictures of backpacks and stuff). There might be really something exciting in there (I just skimmed) but I think it's basically just a confirmation.
