I personally didn't go on one (move in day conflicted with the day my brother had to be picked up from camp), but everyone I know that went on one lovedd it. They're still friends with everyone from their groups and it gives you an advantage when regular orientation starts: you already know 70-90 people. PennQuest (the hiking one) and Pennacle (the leadership/retreat one) are the most popular and supposedly the most fun.
Hope this helps :)

With the programs, I noticed that you're not there on the first day of move in for everyone else. Do you think this is a drawback?

where is there information about pre-orientation programs? where do we sign up? what are they even? i have never heard of them!

bump bump bump

Let me just say if you're interested in leadership or student government or whatever, Pennacle seems to be an awesome program. I myself am incredibly anti-Pennacle, but that's mostly a joke. My best friend went on it, and through him I've met almost the whole group who went on it. They were an incredibly close group for the first semester, and have since broken up more, but many of the Pennacle kids have made some of their best friends through Pennacle. Additionally, the opportunities to meet the heads of the different branches of student government is awesome, and if you decide to get involved (Apply to the NEC! I'll get to interview you!!! Our branch kicks @$$, it's tons of fun) in student government they'll give you lots of advice.

Everyone I've met who went on PennQuest loved it as well, and I know a few of the leaders for next year.

fluffhead, could you please tell me where you get the info on these programs? when do you sign up? where do you sign up? how do you get ahold of the program info? should it come in the mail? i haven't gotten anything related to the pennacle program....

also what is the difference between pennacle program and pennquest?

Here is the information:

http://www.vpul.upenn.edu/osl/preprog/

I think pennacle sounds really great, but honestly I haven't had tons of leadership, just maybe 1 or 2 things, nothing in student government. Does that mean I definitely won't get in?

how hard is it to get into pennquest? how many people apply? thanks!

bumppppppppppppppp

Sorry guys, didn't mean to ignore the thread... yeah that link has all the basic info. You'll also get a mailing in the next few weeks outlining the programs and it'll tell you how to apply.

As for only doing a few leadership activities... if you can demonstrate that you are passionate about what Pennacle is all about, even if you don't neccessarily have the experience, you have a shot.

I'm really interested in the pre-orientation programs. I like pennacle, but pennquest also sounds interesting. My first choice is pennacle since I'm not too much of an outdoor person, but pennquest accepts more people. Can I apply to both and then choose one if I get accepted? If not, any advice on which I should apply to/ I would have a better chance at getting accepted to? I like the retreat concept of pennacle, but also like the building confidence aim of pennquest.

isn't that held on the same date as Intl Student Orientation? so, can intl students join?

how hard is it to get into pennquest? how many people apply? thanks!
