Pre-Orientation Programs

I plan to attend Duke next year as a student in the Class of 2014, and I am considering some of the summer programs for rising freshmen. Would anyone who knows about the Duke pre-orientation programs please share your knowledge or experiences, particularly regarding Project Wild, Project Waves, and especially Project Search. (i.e. How many students participate? Was it a valuable experience? Is it worth doing? et cetera) Duke website link to the program info: https://www.admissions.duke.edu/jump/firstyearex/preorientation.html -- the Project Search link appears to be broken, so information regarding the undergraduate research program is most appreciated. Thanks!

i’m interested in that as well…
does anyone know?

whatever they offer early is GOOD. My son didn’t go because…he dithered and then all the spots were full plus I think it is not free and the money was a negative.

However…they do great things and it is a great way to make friends…on the other hand…showing up for regular orientation is plenty great and you are in no way behind to skip these good programs…lots of kids just have conflicts…

if you want to do one…sign up quickly though

I’m really curious about this as well. Can anyone provide more insight?

The projects are great. TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THEM. You’ll make a lot of friends.

The summer reading book is usually pretty good, but don’t feel pressured to finish that thing but it is NOT required. You’ll have a discussion with your RA and a bunch of students; it won’t be a big deal if you can’t finish/don’t want to read.
