pre-orientation

Has anyone gotten the pre-orientation form per email yet?? So we are supposed to choose the core courses before we actually get to campus?!?! How are we supposed to choose if we don't know the time of the other freshmen-required classes yet??
And I hoped for some sort of counseling...at least in choosing the tracks (management, accounting, ect.)

i think you can select any concentration for now and then change your concentration bc. you won’t take concentration classes first semester anyways…

and, i believe you won’t take classes in art/humanities & sci/tech the first semester either, so you will get a chance to change your selection…

really?? I see…But if we can change everything anyway, why are we asked to choose right now, even before the first semester?

You aren’t CHOOSING, you are requesting. When you get to orientation, your advisor will already have your list of preferred classes. Some advisors will even discuss options with you before you go. Why are you so worried… this is a good thing. It prevents the advisors from being insanely rushed and starting from scratch on orientation day.

i didnt get the pre-orientation form yet, did anyone else not get it?

I didn’t get it either

They send them out on a rolling basis, so the earlier your orientation is, the earlier you get the form.

Oh so I should probably get mine soon, mine is June 20th

just accidentally stumbled upon this online.
if you go to [College of Arts & Sciences - Online Advising for Incoming Students](http://www.onlineadvising.neu.edu) and click on tutorial, it gives you information on choosing classes and at the end has a link to the pre-orientation registration form :)

You are only supposed to do that once you get your email! You’re advisor is going to get really confused and possibly angry if you do it too far in advance.

oops. but how would they know? you don’t log in or anything.

If you put in your name, email, id number, whatever into the tutorial/form and press submit, then they’ll know.

ok thanks everyone :)

Excuse me, but this link is unprotected and available online. It says it must be complete at least 2 weeks prior to orientation. Orientation is in 4 weeks and you think someone is going to be very angry at me if I start trying to prepare myself by previewing this now instead of cramming this in over a few days after I get some email that I have not received yet?

Really?

Advising has a timeline they follow in all of this, they’re dealing with whining from upperclassman, trying to place 2500 new freshman as well as transfer students, and answering the same 4 questions over and over again from anxious parents and incoming students.

Maybe they won’t care if you fill in the form, I don’t know. But if you haven’t gotten an email from them, they aren’t ready for you and might not be thrilled to be getting early forms. ****ing off advisors is never a wise choice, so if it were me I’d play it safe.

But they wont know if you print out the form and read through all the tutorial pages and try and get a handle on it.
This doesnt require you to put in your name, or ID, or submit anything. So I dont see what problem anyone would have with piegirl or anyone else reading through the information. As has been pointed out, its a freely available site [College of Arts & Sciences - Online Advising for Incoming Students](http://www.onlineadvising.neu.edu/)

further it says:
You MUST complete this online advising tutorial at least 2 WEEKS BEFORE YOU ATTEND ORIENTATION. [url=http://www.onlineadvising.neu.edu/orientation/]Orientation[/url]

not exactly 2 weeks, not no earlier than two weeks.

Did I say don’t read it? No. I said don’t put in anything and submit it. Because THEN they’ll know. So chill out.

post #10 yes actually you did.
The form that’s there is to print and bring with you to your first meeting with your advisor. There more than likely is information in the packet that will be helpful, but there is nothing on the online tutorial that cant be done in advance. So perhaps it would be good look at what people are talking about first.

Preparation Steps

1) Print and read through the Pre-Orientation Registration Worksheet. (Please right-click the file and save it to your computer.) It will prepare you for when you come to your meeting with your Faculty Advisor at orientation. Be sure to bring this along with you to orientation for reference when you meet with your Faculty Advisor.

2) Set aside enough time to familiarize yourself with the course offerings and where to find the course descriptions, restrictions, prerequisites and enrollments for each course of interest.

3) Fill out the Pre-Orientation Registration Worksheet. http://www.onlineadvising.neu.edu/blue/helpful_resources/documents/PreOrientation_Registration_Worksheet.pdf</a></p>

4) When you’ve completed the worksheet, put it in a safe place and remember to bring it with you to your orientation! [Helpful Resources for Selecting Your First Semester Courses](http://www.onlineadvising.neu.edu/blue/helpful_resources/)

Does it say “you are absolutely forbidden from reading it”? No, it says don’t do it, as in don’t submit anything- which I specified already.
